Opened in 2007, this Italian eatery in Alpharetta balances upscale quality with recession-friendly prices. The design reeks of class, from the trickling water fountain outside to the black marble bar. But despite the tile floors, stained glass wall sconces and decorative vases, this is no stuffy Italian joint: The waiters wear jeans, and the music is Frank Sinatra swing rather than Old World staid.

Executive Chef John Solis’ menu features a range of delights, with delectable appetizers such as Sautéed Sea Scallops with long-stem artichokes and crispy pancetta, and the popular Shrimp Oreganata (shrimp sautéed in garlic and white wine, topped with seasoned breadcrumbs, then baked). The entrees showcase a respect for tradition while revealing a creative streak. Try Sautéed Grouper served in spicy tomato broth with a side of tomato-basil risotto, or the Rosmarino Veal Loin Chop served over creamy cheese polenta with sautéed spinach.

As delicious as these dishes are, you’ll definitely want to save room for dessert. Crostata Di Mele and Panna Cotta remain their most popular selections, but our favorite was the Chocolate Tartuffo, a semi-frozen chocolate mousse covered with chocolate sauce and whipped cream. –BRET LOVE
